Sky Lagoon in the Greater Reykjavik Area

The Sky Lagoon is a geothermal spa in the Greater Reykjavik Area that opened in 2021.

Visit it on a hot spring tour.

Location of the Sky Lagoon

The lagoon is located on the edge of a peninsula in Kopavogur, a town on the outskirts of Reykjavik. It can be walked to from the center in about 1.5 hours, accessed by city bus in around half an hour, or driven to in 15 minutes; there are also transfers available.

Its location puts it away from the hubbub of the capital; it faces out entirely to sea and is immersed in the nature of the lava rocks. Its infinity pool and sauna look out over uninterrupted views of the Atlantic Ocean.

The site also houses the relaxing Sky Cafe as well as the more upmarket bistro, the traditionally Icelandic Smakk Bar.

Sky Lagoon Passes

The Sky Lagoon has four options for entry. The most affordable is the Pure Lite Pass, which grants admission to the Sky Lagoon’s infinity pool, the public changing facilities, and a towel. Those who want to engage in the seven-part ritual, however, for which the spa is becoming renowned, have to book a Pure Pass.

Those looking for private changing facilities and access to the spa’s unique Sky Lotion, however, can book the more luxurious Sky Pass. Finally, couples and lovebirds can book Sky Lagoon for Two (either Sky or Pure Pass), which includes admission, the seven-part ritual, towels, complimentary drinks, and a Sky Platter at Smakk Bistro.

The Seven-Step Ritual

Pure Pass and Sky Pass Guests traveling to the Sky Lagoon are welcome to partake in the spa’s unique seven-part ritual for revitalization, which utilizes all of the facilities available. The steps are as follows:

  1. Bask in the geothermal waters of the Sky Lagoon’s outdoor pools.

  2. Take a dip in the cold-water glacial pool.

  3. Spend 10 minutes in the sauna overlooking the sea.

  4. Step into a cold fog mist.

  5. Rub down a body wash using the Sky Lagoon’s own scrub.

  6. Enjoy the steam room.

  7. Shower off, and return to the lagoon.
